Question 14

16 October 2007

From: Councillor Mohammed Rasib

What is your opinion of the traffic calming measures on Long-Readings Lane?

Reply: Councillor Sean Wright

This scheme has been in place for a number of years and has proved successful in reducing the original problem highlighted by residents of excessive speed. The Council did undertake a separate investigation about a year ago following complaints that these measures were not working but after reassessment concluded that safety had improved (i.e. accident levels were low) and that recorded speeds were still at an acceptable level and felt therefore that no further action was required.

There is however a "safe routes to school" scheme close to Beechwood School off Long Readings Lane which is considering the possibility of providing alternative traffic measures in place of some existing chicanes to strengthen safety for school children when crossing Long Readings lane near to the school.
