Slough Councillors Questions - 9 October 2007

Question 12

16 October 2007

From: Councillor Rakesh Pabbi

In 2003/04, you moved a motion requesting that the Council offered up the abandoned vehicles it had removed from Slough’s streets to the fire brigade who were desperate or such vehicles to use in their training. Given that the fire brigade were advertising for vehicles in last week’s local papers, how many abandoned vehicles have been passed to the fire brigade since your motion?

Reply: Councillor Dexter Smith

The motion you refer to relied on the Fire Service approaching Council officers whenever they required vehicles for training purposes and no such request has been made until recently, reflecting a significant rise in scrap vehicle prices.

A meeting was held with the Fire Service in August to discuss the possibility of abandoned vehicles being used to recycle parts for youth training purposes in Pitstop. We are currently progressing this request in liaison with our abandoned vehicles contractor.
