10 July 2007
Callers to the Council on 552288 during the daytime on Friday 26 January 2007 and during the morning of Saturday 27 January 2007 repeatedly heard Kate Pratt's voice announcing the choices and then saying there is an emergency and the caller should call back later.
Was that emergency of at least two days duration caused by your Administration's chaotic mismanagement or is it a warning to the voters that you have lost the public's confidence ahead of this year's local elections?
Telephone number 552288 was the main number for the Council until it was replaced by 475111, the number for My Council. As the number was used on a wide range of literature and notices, and is still in circulation, you can still use it, but the call is routed to My Council.
If My Council is closed, you will be advised of this and then provided with out-of-hours emergency numbers.
The situation described in your question indicates that there was a major fault with the telephony system. When this fails it can only provide the message you describe.
During the week beginning 22 January 2007 there was an intermittent problem with the power supply at Landmark Place. Complete power loss to the telephony system occurred. Power was restored as quickly as possible and the service resumed.
It would only be possible to investigate in detail if you could provide details of the number you were calling from and the times you called.
As I mentioned earlier, the problem arose from an intermittent power supply failure. The cause of this has been resolved. However, it would be foolish of me or anyone else to suggest that such an event could not happen again, a complete loss of power would be outside of the Council's control.
There was no mismanagement and to even suggest this is a gross exaggeration of the facts.
