Was the sudden appearance of the Langley parking proposals just days after the Langley St. Mary's by-election more or less cynical than the shelving of the plastics recycling that your Party had promised to residents just days before that election?
The Langley parking consultation was issued as the next stage in the programme of introduction of Parking Watch Zones across the borough. To date this scheme has successfully responded to residents' parking concerns in the town centre, Herschel village and parts of Chalvey. The consultation has now closed and the feedback from this will inform our future proposals. The decision to delay the introduction of plastic bottle kerbside recycling was taken by the administration as a result of budget pressures caused by Government under-funding. In coming to this decision we took into account advice from officers that this delay offered the opportunity to take into account the changing waste management environment, which is developing in terms of the wastes being produced, best practice and also the availability of new recycling sorting technologies and facilities locally. The delay created a window of opportunity to look at and consult on long term strategies to make sure that collection services are properly integrated and that they work together to deliver the next stage of the Council's Waste Management Strategy and a second step change in performance. Adding extra recycling streams to the kerbside collections will always be beneficial but a thorough review of the bigger picture is now appropriate.
The timing of both these proposals was in no way linked to the Langley St Mary's by-election.
