Question 2

From:  Councillor Sukhjit Dhaliwal

In only January work was halted on priority resurfacing work, such as Warwick Avenue, after residents were told it was going ahead .The reason given was due to "insufficient funds". Is it that that your highways budget is inadequate or that funds available have been mismanaged that has meant residents being misled?

Reply: Councillor Dexter Smith

Resurfacing of Warwick Avenue was programmed to be carried out within the 05/06 programme for road resurfacing and notification to the residents was made in accordance with the original programme. However, unfortunately other schemes carried out immediately preceding this scheme had exceeded the original estimates due to extra works being needed over and over the original expectation. We can only apologise that residents were given incorrect information and assure them that Warwick Avenue will be at the top of the list for the 06/07 programme and will be resurfaced in the early part of the new financial year.
