Slough Councillors' Questions - 13 December 2005

Question 9

From:  Councillor Raja Zarait

Are the cuts to the voluntary sector proposed in the budget consistent with your previous pronouncements that should you ever have any influence there would be an INCREASE in funding for this sector?

Reply: Councillor Derek Cryer

The saving is necessary because of the Council's budget position. Special consideration has been given to the sector through the early stages of budget planning and some proposals have been rejected. It is as a last resort that it is proposed that the budget is reduced. Whilst it is not something that we wish to do it has proved difficult to protect any aspect of the Council's services from the impact of the financial situation. Options are being considered as to how the saving may be applied, but no decision has yet been made.
