Slough Councillors' Questions - 13 December 2005

Question 6

From:  Councillor Mike Holledge

Given your supposed commitment to a green agenda and the previous concerns you have voiced about the sale of public playing fields, can you state whether you support the new plans for the Britwell & Northborough regeneration - which propose packing extra houses into an already densely populated area and selling off public assets and public open space to developers. Is this what your council meant when it said 'we mean to be green'?

Reply: Councillor Richard Stokes

Yes, I support the plans to consult local people on a range of options for the regeneration of the area. I will review my support in light of the results of that consultation.

Yes, I support the plans to consult local people on a range of options for the regeneration of the area. There is no doubt that regeneration is needed but, equally, what form that regeneration takes should be the residents' choice. This Administration is committed to making the community in Britwell and Northborough more sustainable. We will not encroach on the Green Belt, and any loss of public open space will be balanced by making better use of the public open space remaining for recreational enjoyment.
