Slough Councillors' Questions - 11 October 2005

Question 7

From:  Councillor Lydia Simmons

What is the cause of the £100k Haymill centre budget deficit and what measures are being put in place to reduce this?

Reply: Councillor Richard Stokes

The bar has been struggling to break even for some time, mainly due to competition in the area (e.g. the Sizzler). As a result costs previously met by profit from the bar and use of the facility have become a budget pressure (i.e. staffing, running costs and loss on the bar).

A number of pieces of work are being carried out to look at:

· The variety and levels of stocklines held to reduce bar costs
· Reoccurring running costs from uses of the site
· Reviewing the opening hours of the bar and use of the facility by the Community

The outcome of these pieces of work will be reported in the October budget monitoring report to CMT.
