What measures do you have in place to deal with the increased cost and fly-tipping which will result from the increase in charges for the removal of bulky waste? The Council's charges for bulky waste are a realignment with charges to be found elsewhere in the area. After benchmarking, it has been found that Slough's charges are very significantly lower than other authorities in the area. Where charges are higher locally, the frequency of fly tips does not seem to be higher. In addition, the EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive will be coming into force in 2006, when fridges, washing machines etc. will most likely be taken back by retailers when new items are purchased. It is not considered likely that a moderate increase in charges will result in an increase in fly tipping. This will be closely monitored and matters will of course be kept under review. |
