Slough Councillors' Questions - 11 October 2005

Question 1

From:  Councillor Christine Small

How do you personally justify the introduction of charges for education psychology as well as the reduction of supporting people grant, and following from this how will the council maintain the good social services standard

Reply: Councillor Derek Cryer

The Education & Children's Services Directorate has been exploring possibilities in terms of charging for some services. However, it would not be appropriate to charge for statutory educational psychology work and there are no plans to do so.

The reduction of the Supporting People grant is decided annually by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister on a national basis. Slough received a reduction of 5% in its grant for 2005/06 and a similar reduction is anticipated in 2006/07.
