Question 13

From:   Mr D Wood, Welland Close, Colnbrook

Why isn't the Council doing more to improve the current level of recycling in Slough? Only 15% of waste has been recycled last year in Slough whereas other Boroughs are achieving more than twice that amount.

Reply: Councillor Richard Stokes

The quantity of waste recycled by the Council continues to grow. Vast improvements have been made in the way waste is collected and separated for recycling at Chalvey and the month of March saw a 63% recycling performance by this newly revamped facility. The green waste collection scheme is being very well used at present and the numbers of customers are growing daily.

In the coming months there will be considerable promotional and educational activity aimed at bringing more people into the recycling schemes we offer. The newly appointed Community Recycling Officer will deliver these activities.

Following the recent report to Cabinet on this issue, a waste management and recycling action plan was approved which gives more detail on the forthcoming year’s activities.
