Question 12

From:   Mrs J Hatch, Blunden Drive, Langley

On 16th September 1999, the National Grid informed Slough Councillors' that the amount of energy from waste from the proposed Colnbrook incinerators would not be enough to merit connection to the Grid. Why did Mr Andy Scate, Chartered Town Planner for Slough Councillors' and case officer for the Grundon planning application, not make this information available to the public seven days later at the public meeting in Colnbrook Village Hall on 23rd September 1999 when the Council, the Environment Agency and Grundons sold this project to the community?

Reply: Councillor Richard Stokes

The quote from the 17 September 1999 letter from the National Grid has been taken out of context as it needs to be read with the following sentence which states: 'It is more likely that any facility with generation of less than 400 MW would be connected to a regional electricity company network rather than the National Grid.'

Thus the National Grid were not saying that the electricity could not be used but rather that it would need to go via a regional company. I understand that Grundon are pursuing with the regional electricity company a connection to the local sub-station which, in turn, would serve the National Grid.
