Slough Councillors' Questions - 26 April 2005

Question 9

From:  Councillor Pervez Choudhry

Did you support your Leader in his expulsion of a democratically elected Member of the Council at the recent 'debate' on the Muslim Faith School?

Reply: Councillor David Munkley

As a general rule I would support the right of any member to speak at a meeting and believe that they should only be expelled as a last resort.

However, the Chair of the meeting has to have the authority to deal with disruptive behaviour and ensure that the meeting is conducted in a proper and orderly way. If a Member persists in showing disrespect to others who are present then the Chair is justified in excluding them
