Question 6

From:  Mrs M Little, Reddington Drive, Langley

I understand that Lord Kingsland, QC was hired for thousands of pounds to give advice on the subject of the revocation of the planning consent, for the two incinerators in Colnbrook.

Would the Leader of Council agree that it has wasted thousands of pounds, as Lord Kingsland's advice might not be seen to be helpful for the following reasons.

Firstly: the instructions given to Lord Kingsland by SBC Legal Department are incomplete, insufficient and therefore misleading.

Secondly: the instruction of Lord Kingsland QC, Shadow Lord Chancellor, does not give the appearance of impartiality which is required?

Reply: Councillor Richard Stokes

This Council has instructed one of this country’s most eminent QCs who has specialised in environmental and planning cases, to give us impartial legal advice on what options are available to us for stopping the building of this incinerator.

In addition a leading expert in environmental law was consulted to give a view on this issue.

I do not believe that this money was wasted as I have always given a commitment that we would do everything we could to try to stop this from being built.
