Slough Councillors' Questions - 12 October 2004

Question 11

From:  Councillor Nimrit Chohan

In light of your responsibility for the health of the organisation, what measures have you taken to halt the haemorrhaging of staff from this Council since June 2004?

Reply: Councillor Richard Stokes

Councillor Chohan you sit on the employment committee and at the meeting which you attended last Tuesday we discussed this issue, I do not understand why you failed to raise this question there? Let me repeat for your benefit some of the details we all discussed.

Staff turnover is measured on a monthly basis. These figures are published internally and reported to Members at the Employment Committee.

Turnover figures are expressed in annual terms (i.e. over a twelve month period).

The figures for turnover within a month are used for monitoring trends. The turnover has reduced from approximately 22% to the current levels over the last eighteen months.

There was a slight increase in August but this is due to a seasonal variation arising from the use of contracts related to the school year in the Learning and Cultural Services Directorate.
