Question 9

From:  Councillor David MacIsaac

In view of the number of complaints about repairs to housing and delays in central heating being installed has sufficient funding now been put aside in the budget to meet the demand and monitoring of this service?

Reply: Councillor Rob Anderson

It is important to make a distinction in relation to "repairs" complaints - there are two distinct types of repairs:

  • major works / improvements

for example windows, showers baths, heating system replacements; and

  • day to day repairs

for example dealing with leaks, breakdown of heating systems, broken door handles etc

The vast majority of complaints received relate to major works / improvements. These type of repairs form part of the Decent Homes Standard.

SBC has made a commitment to work towards ensuring decent homes for all who need them. However, there is a substantial funding gap of £45m to bring our homes to a decent standard by 2010.

The Homes for the Future project is attempting to determine the best way to secure this funding gap and one proposal is securing ALMO status (subject to tenants support).
