Reply: Councillor James Swindlehurst Broadmark Road forms part of the first 20 mph speed zone constructed in Slough a number of years ago. The scheme has generally been successful and residents comments have been very positive. We are always anxious, however, to monitor performance of such schemes and we are presently undertaking a review of a number of past traffic calming schemes throughout the borough in order to assess if any improvement or alteration is recommended. The results of this review will identify alterations and prioritise the most urgent sites to ensure available funding is targeted at the most needy and cost effective measures which will deliver genuine road safety benefits in any given area. The Council has also budgeted to apply new road safety measures to a zone in the town every year for the next twenty years (the programme will, in actuality, be implemented more quickly than this, as developer contributions will be added to the core funding already approved). This programme was taken to the Development & Customer Care Scrutiny Committee last year and endorsed by members. The aim of the programme is to ensure that the zones are prioritised on the basis of road safety benefit - so that the measures which are most likely to stop speed-related accidents in black-spot areas are the first to be installed. |
