Cllr Anderson, (Lab.) the Leader of the Council, was not present at the Council meeting. Slough Labour issued a Press Release one day before the meeting stating, inter alia,

Instead of attending the meeting, Cllr. Anderson will be leading a group of Labour councillors in a community clean-up in Cippenham Ward, as part of the Council's 'Keep Slough Green and Tidy summer campaign'.

Clr Anderson is quoted in the newspapers as saying

"We'd prefer to pick up rubbish than listen to it. It's more valuable to the town."
