A Poem for Lovers

by Dianne L Egan

September 1986

I want a night for you and me
Wherever we both choose to be,
Where I can hold you and be with you
And give all that I can give you.
I’d like to find a quiet place
Where we can steal some time and space,
To express our hearts’ desire
Without us needing to conspire…..

When the dawn breaks.

We can maybe drink some wine,
I’ll take your hand and you’ll take mine,
And our eager lips will meet
And both our hearts will miss a beat.
For once we’ll both ignore the time
‘Cos being late won’t be a crime,
And I won’t have to go away
And you’ll be glad that you can stay…..

Until the dawn breaks.

Amidst the darkness we’ll caress
And share our love and happiness,
Neither wishing to conceal
The warmth and passion that we feel.
And whilst we’re by ourselves and free,
And when you’ve made sweet love to me,
Close to your body, I will lay
There by your side, and we will stay…..

And watch the dawn break.
