A Mother’s Poem

Dianne L Egan

March 1991

Deep inside me dwells a tiny body which I’m nurturing with pride,
For within me grows a miracle which I have no desire to hide;
This miracle of life has been created by the love you share with me,
And day by day it grows and flourishes for everyone to see.

Here within my body dwells our baby’s tiny beating heart,
Growing stronger every minute and preparing for the day these bodies part;
But although I will no longer be two people, you will not love me less,
For in your arms our newborn child will share the love that we possess.

The time is drawing near for me to give to you this tiny gift of life,
The most precious of all gifts that can be given to a husband by his wife,
And when that moment has arrived and our baby dwells inside of me no more,
Then we will share a special joy that’s greater than we’ve every known before.
